Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

239 - THE LAW OF THEFT

Exodus 22:1-2 -- 1 "If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep. 2 If the thief is found breaking in, and he is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt for his bloodshed.”

All the details of this law are explained in the seventh chapter of Baba Kamma, in the eighth chapter of Sanhedrin, in the third chapter of Baba Mezia, and in a few places in Kethuboth, Kiddushin, and Shevuoth.
