The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

241 - THE LAW OF DAMAGE BY FIRE

Exodus 22:6 -- "If fire breaks out and catches in thorns, so that stacked grain, standing grain, or the field is consumed, he who kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.”

Maimonides says of these commandments that they “aim at the removal of wrong and the prevention of injury. As we are strongly recommended to prevent damage, we are responsible for every damage caused by our property or through our work in so far as it is in our power to take care and to guard it from becoming injurious. We are, therefore, responsible for all damage caused by our cattle; we must guard them. The same is the case with fire and pits; they are made by man, and he can be careful that they do not cause damage.”*
