The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

242 - THE LAW OF AN UNPAID BAILEE

Exodus 22:7 -- "If a man delivers to his neighbor money or articles to keep, and it is stolen out of the man's house, if the thief is found, he shall pay double.”

“The fairness of the law is evident. If one keeps the property of his neighbor for nothing, without deriving therefrom any benefit for himself, and is only obliging his neighbor, he is free from all responsibility, and if any injury is done to the property, the owner alone must bear the loss.”*

* Moreh Nebuchim III, 42
