By this prohibition, it is forbidden to exclude Egyptians from the community after they have become proselytes. This prohibition is contained in His words: You shall not abhor an Egyptian (Deuteronomy 23:7). Maimonides says: “The law teaches us that if we find a person in trouble, whose assistance we have once enjoyed, or of whom we have received some benefit, even if that person has subsequently done evil to us, we must bear in mind his previous good conduct. Thus, the Law tells us: You shall not abhor an Egyptian, because you were an alien in his land. (Deuteronomy 23:7), although the Egyptians subsequently oppressed us grievously, as is well known.”* * Moreh Nebuchim III, 42
