“The reason for the particular laws concerning the Paschal lamb is clear. It was eaten roasted by fire in one house, and without breaking its bones. In the same way as the Israelites were commanded to eat unleavened bread, because they could prepare it hastily, so they were commanded, for the sake of speed, to roast the lamb, because there was not sufficient time to boil it…; even the delay caused by breaking the bones and extracting their marrow was prohibited… For when speed is necessary, the bones cannot be broken, nor can parts of it be sent from house to house; for the company would not wait until their meal be returned. Such things would lead to laxity and delay, while the object of there rules was to make a show of hurry and haste, in order that none should be too late to leave Egypt with the main body of the people, and be thus exposed to attacks and the evil designs of the enemy. These temporary commandments were then made permanent, in order that we might remember what was done in those days.”* * Moreh Nebuchim III, 46
