In the “Mishneh Torah”, Maimonides explains the reason for this commandment in the following words: “As long as one nurses a grievance and keeps it in mind, he may come to take vengeance. The Torah therefore emphatically warns us not to bear a grudge, so that the impression of wrong shall be quite obliterated and be no longer remembered.
