314 - DETRACTING FROM THE WRITTEN OR ORAL LAW


Deuteronomy 12:32 -- “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.”

In his Introduction to the “Mishneh Torah”, Maimonides says: “Whatever is mentioned… in the Talmud received the assent of all Israel, and those Sages who instituted the ordinances, issued the decrees, introduced the customs, gave the decisions and taught which rulings were correct, constituted the whole body or the majority of Israel’s wise men. They were the leaders who received from each other the traditions concerning the fundamentals of Judaism, in unbroken succession back to Moses, our teacher, peace be upon him.”
