308 - CUTTING OR CAUTERIZING SIGNS OF LEPROSY
The Mishnah says: “A man who plucks out tokens of uncleanness or cauterizes quick flesh transgresses a negative commandment.”*
The belief that there is an element of good in all evil happenings is basic to the religious attitude. For this reason we must regard suffering as expiatory in nature, and bear it with patience and resignation. As Maimonides puts it:
“The injunction to love God carries the implication that even in distress we must thank Him and praise Him with joy.”*
