17. Understanding Islam
SECTION FOUR: UNDERSTANDING ISLAMIC BARRIERS TO THE GOSPEL
CHAPTER TWELVE: A BRIEF COMPARISON OF TOPICS IN THE BIBLE AND THE QUR’AN
12.1. Areas of agreement
- God is the creator and sustainer of the universe (although the Muslim view is very fatalistic).
- God is sovereign.
- There is life after death.
- There is eternal punishment or reward (though we don’t agree on the details).
- There are good and evil spirits. (As well as angels, Muslims also believe in Jinn; some Jinn are Muslims and some are not.)
- Jesus was born of a virgin through a miraculous conception.
- Jesus lived a sinless life.
- Jesus performed many miracles.
- Jesus is the Messiah (but Muslims don’t understand the Biblical meaning of Messiah).
- Jesus ascended into heaven (but Muslims don’t believe in the death and resurrection of Christ).
- There is heaven and hell, (though there is significant disagreement on the details).
