BIBLICAL SAMPLE: Here we quote part of the passage, in which Abraham obeyed God, ready to sacrifice his son Isaac on an altar, in Genesis 22:9-12 -- “9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, ‘Abraham, Abraham!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ 12 He said ‘Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.’ 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in the thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.”

KORANIC SAMPLE: This passage from Genesis seems to have been taken up by a passage of the Koran in Sura al-Saffat 37:103-107 -- “103 So when both (Abraham and his unnamed son) had submitted (as Muslims) and he (Abraham) had bent him (his son) down onto his forehead (for slaughtering): 104 And (then) we (i.e. Allah) called him, that ‘O Ibrahim (Abraham)! 105 You have made true the vision (of your dream that you would slaughter your son). Truly, thus do we recompense those who do good. 106 Truly, this is the manifest trial.’ 107 And we (i.e. Allah) redeemed him (Abraham's son) with a gigantic (slaughtered) sacrifice.”
